Numb hands can affect everyday activity and be very troublesome.

Figuring out why the numbness happens often needs an expert evaluation.  Systemic illnesses (diabetes, hormone issues, chemotherapy, etc) can cause neuropathy, which damages nerves. Other possible causes include nerve compression in the neck (spinal cord and nerve) vs. shoulder vs. elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) vs. wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) vs. hand (guyon’s canal).
